Eco made easy - Drink Loose Tea!
Loose Tea – Do we really need teabags to have a cup of Tea?
As we move towards a more sustainable world McEntee’s Tea asks “Do we really need a teabag to have a cup of tea?”
According to Checkout Ireland the average Irish person consumes 1460 cups of tea a year, that’s a lot of teabag waste. ! Then multiply that by the number of tea drinkers in Ireland and you end up with a mountain of teabag rubbish. That is wasted paper, waste glue not to mention the plastic woven through the filter paper often used to ensure your teabag holds it shape. Is this really necessary? For a product that can easily be consumed loose with a strainer that you can use for a life time we don’t need to create all this waste.
As Board Bia points out 77% of us are look to buy products with less packaging, teabags are unnecessary packaging!! Tea bags?
Are we serious about creating a sustainable world? If so we need to take one small step at a time and consume our tea with as little impact as possible on the world. As Archbishop Desmond Tutu said “Do your little bit of good where you are; it’s those little bits of good put together that overwhelm the world.”
